Central Saint Martins BA show

Yesterday the assessment show was held at Charing Cross road. Points of interest included fairytale theme and lots of umbrellas dramatic make up. Dolls and fantasy was a strong theme. The menswear and print was also excellent which even included a huge box walking down the catwalk. The show was stunning and the photos are as follows

As the cloudy head clears, and flicking through the memory on my camera I see that yes Carl Barat and his new gang were looking as good as they did in Cambridge. Their performance was tight, storming through the songs which were on the album and some much appreciated Libertines songs; not the same with out Pete but nevertheless we will have to get used to the fact that this would be a miraculous performance and most likely never to happen.

I get in the thick of it, pushing and shoving sweat pours from everyone, smiles and jumping. This is what going to a gig is all about. The music is hard and fast, all the musicians are playing with so much effort, in contrary to the melodical and softer approach used by Doherty, maybe due to the complete opposite effects on either’s drug of choice.

The consensus when I look around is of happiness, hot and sticky happiness. I personally can’t wait for Bloodthirsty Bastards, a song which races through tempos, slow and fast and slow and fast...and it is a particular favourite of mine, Deadwood is the first track to be played and I hear this will be the next single as well. You Fucking Love it is another track that drives the audience into a frenzy, I am sure if I lifted my feet up I would be able stay in the same position, I get pushed from side to side with the crowd getting ever closer to the stage with every chord, never loosing sight of snarling Carl erratic Anthony Rossamundo and Didz who is right over the other side of The Forum's stage I can see in waistcoat and shirt, not as sweaty in leathers...and Gary, is behind the drum kit so I assume he is sweaty?

I loose sight of Scarlet and I am lost in between boys with their tops off, the heat is not yet unbearable but I feel a tad pang of jealousy for if I did this it would probably be indecent exposure and I would most likely get sexually assaulted as the teenage boy hormones are practically buzzing with the anticipation of the crowd surf. They mosh and they surf. Moshing is great, I give as good as I get…and the some girl bends double pushing her bottom into the crowd behind her, I assume as to give her more room...then what I ask are you doing at the front of a gig young lady. One of my extreme pet hates.

The gig seems shorter than at Cambridge and as far as the venue and intimacy are concerned, Cambridge outweighs. The Forum is a lovely venue, I was very impressed but with the Cambridge gig the size of The Junction was a lot smaller and there seemed to be a lot more interaction with the crowd, giving out beers cigarettes coming right into the frenzied crowd, but this time around I enjoyed being part of the rabble and also standing further back and appreciating the music as I could do that here at the forum.

Final songs include, France and I get Along, some Libertines classics. Then the gig is over, sweat ridden and smiling we stumble into the night, content with what I have seen, Boys in skinny jeans, it was a sea of leather bomber jackets and waistcoats, and long hair was stuck to foreheads looking decidedly soaked. The scene is not evolving, fashion wise, the boys are still pretty and the girls, well we all want the same sort of boy, in a band and poetical, it would help if they had long hair pretty eyes and wore leathers too…maybe there needs to be some change around here. Summer restricts the wearing of skinny jeans and leathers; let’s see what the indie kids do now?

Ellie Jauncey is just finishing her BA degree at Manchester Metropolitan University where she has studied Textiles specialising in knitwear. Her final collection is a beautiful range of delicately made knitwear. She has created a range which looks entirely unique, each piece is different and has a quirky characteristic demonstrating Ellie's flare for individuality. Lola and Scarlet have both become big fans of her work, and not suprisingly Ellie has just been offered a contract in London with Nicky Dupont (incase you didn't know Nicky Dupont is a hugely renowned and respected designer within the knitwear industry.) It is definitely safe to say watch this space, and you heard it from us first.

Diesel Party

The guest list was full, the doors were tight but somehow even unknown to ourselves we got in. Guests were served individually wrapped sandwiches and cocktails into the early hours of the morning at the safari themed party.
Music was courtesy of Mylo as three dance floors were filled with very sweaty guests.
The packed V.I.P area was home to regular party people including Peaches Geldof, Camilla Fayed and Graham Norton, but no sign of Johnny Depp.
The party took place at Victoria House.

Scarlet and I are very happy to introduce a new member to our team. It’s a boy, a beautiful boy. His name is Mylo. He has a major input in the page in particular the menswear elements. He made his first outing last night at Family in Shoreditch. This was a first for all of us to this particular night, witnessing Bjork nearly getting turned away from her own night. Many a fashion darling pushing with the rest of us to get into this what seems to be exclusive night. A few elbows in the ribs later and we are in. Its not even full, I can not quite believe the mayhem that I have just left outside and there is room for lots more people.

The fashion was on top form, making the evening for people spotting and watching all the more interesting, lost of neon’s, glitter, hats and headresses, stripes and spots, eye make up and big hair. It was awash with colours and twinkling blacks; people were dressing to get noticed. The waif like figure of Gareth Pugh was roving around, dressed all in black, seeing ribs through a slashed down the side vest. Curls were a statement too, on boys mostly. Rumours were rife with sightings including editor of Pop, Katie Grand, even Hollywood actress Thora Birch was said to be behind the decks at some point. However the crowds surrounding the dance floor were thick and sweaty Scarlet, Mylo and I ignored the hype danced where we had space. The ever sensible option.

The venue was Bar Music Hall, Curtain Road in Shoreditch. Plenty of room, and the toilets reminded me of swimming changing rooms, apart from the resident artist painting murals in the corner on anything by the looks of it, including peoples bodies. The music was completely mixed, ranging from chav pop Usher to Hard House. An eclectic mix but did we expect anything less from the Icelandic artist. It was entertaining and most importantly fun. There was another rumour that all the tunes were not being pumped through turntables but, I-tunes and a laptop. I didn't get close enough to be able to justify this comment; again the sweaty crowds barred my view. Nevertheless the tunes did their job. The celebrity status pulled a mammoth interest and crowd.

We all left arm in arm after having a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Considering it was free and always is I’m sure next week will see another appearance from the terrible threesome?

Letters From London...

Not believing a gig could possibly start at 8pm Scarlet and I turned up ever so slightly late...
Letters from London were midway through their set, just old enough to smoke and have sex, but giving a very impressive performance in London’s West End venue Metro. This stage has seen the likes of Karen O, Courtney Love, The Kills and Bloc Party. Letters From London hail from my hometown in Kent; it bought back nostalgia for the up and coming scene back home. Speaking to the boys after their performance we got some photos and some interesting conversation as Scarlet and I were getting steadily slurred....

Hot...skinny ties, pink t-shirts, the horrors "not overly keen on the music but the style is good". Reading festival, they are all going. "Girls in corsets". And then the conversation turned to the attractiveness of female stars. My main concern at the moment is trying to decide between...Jemina Pearl or the legend that is Karen O.... It was almost unanimous that newcomer and Be Your Own Pet female lead Jemina was definitely the best. The debate took a turn to The Raconteurs or The White Stripes; it was a definite White Stripes based answer. But I wanted to know about Meg. Interestingly pretty "apparently she's locked in a box somewhere" that I doubt but the decision was decided she wasn’t interesting because "that’s just a nice way of saying ugly". Influences and albums ranged from Metallica to Ok computer and The Libertines up the bracket. Diverse and mixed tastes are good things to posses in a continuously changing fickle finger of the music industry.

They were genuinely nice boys, young and talented. Still naive (which believe me is a good thing) all with girlfriends and I swear one of them said, "don’t smoke its bad for you", as me and Scarlet puffed away swaying to the sound of the other bands playing. Dirty Didz...

After a blinding set performed by in my opinion the most beautiful man in the world and his new best friends, I caught up with the bassist, ex cooper temple clause member... Didz. It was post Dirty Pretty Things gig in Cambridge last Sunday and obviously i had to ask the all important question of what is hot and what is not, i got some rather insightful answer....

hot..."eggs, on your face, being thrown at you all down the side of your face."
and dare i ask whats not hot??? "bad eggs."

Insightful and intesting his chat was nice and friendly offered cigarettes and beer from the tour bus...i drove home buzzing with excitemnt after the fantastic peice of music i had just witnessed wearing a blow up cowboy hat that a 12 year old tried to fight me for.

Friday May 5th saw American Apparel throw a party, infact three parties, Scarlet and I are unsure of what it was in aid of but a brilliant knees up was had by all.
All 3 parties were secret and guestlist but blagging and using charms is in our blood. The parties were all situated around Shoreditch all culminating in a sweaty beat pounding free for all at the Old Blue Last. Two rooms packed with some of Londons's trendiest, tunes supplied by Bloc Party (well two of them anyway) and drinks were errr, free.

Once i talk to Scarlet, she is the technological brains of the bunch, and she will get some of my delightful pictures up...

London Fashion Week

The dates for London Fashion Week were officially confirmed yesterday by the British Fashion Council. The shows will start from the 18th to fri the 22nd September and the event will run directly before Milan Fashion Week as it did in February. It will be held at The Natural History Museum and will also include and exhibition of designer collections from the 19th to the 22nd .

The Royal College of Art Fashion Show

I am particularly loving the toweringly tall wedges and platforms that seem to come up everywhere at this momment, Classy platforms and tights, peeptoes and metallics with super hot shorts.

Men in leopard print, please i am not thinking of those awful thongs that greased up male strippers have a penchant for wearing, but i am talking Burberry. a touch here and there, scarves, jackets and bags (obviously not together)
